Short Information :

West Bengal Central Admission Portal (WBCAP) 2025-26 is a digital platform launched by the West Bengal State Council for Higher Education (WBSCHE). It allows students to apply to multiple colleges and courses through a single portal, ensuring a transparent, merit-based and student-friendly process. For the year 2025-26, WBCAP covers 460 colleges, 17 universities and 7,229 courses, providing a one-stop solution for students who have passed their 10+2 exams.

Post Merit List Publication: 

  • Check for your application wise merit list.
  • Check overall Merit List and allocation list.
  • Check Allotment Status.

Steps after Selection :

  • If allotted "Take Admission" option will be available on website.
  • Select type of seat (UR / EWS / SC / ST / OBC).
  • Select preference for Auto upgradtaion (if required).
  • Proceed for payment.
  • Select Payment gateway.
  • Make payment on successful payment, download Provisional Admission receipt..

Online Counselling :

  • Suppose you are allotted a seat in higher preference the upgraded round.
  • you may opt for admission.
  • Check balance amount to be paid, if any.
  • Proceed for payment.
  • If higher preferences is alloted through upgradation, an applicant can check the same in the dashboard.

Proceed for cancellation of Admission :

  1. Log in the dashboard.
  2. Click on "Cancel admission".
  3. Click on "Confirm" button to proceed for cancellation.
  4. Give reason for cancellation.
  5. Validate OTP.
  6. On successful cancellation of admission, go to dashboard to download 'Cancellation Slip'.

How to check Merit List & Download Rank Card :

The application process is entirely online, and students can apply for up to 25 programs across multiple colleges. Follow these steps to Check Merit List & Download Rank Card.

  1. Visit the Official Portal: Go to https://wbcap.in 
  2. Log In: Use your User ID and password or OTP to log into the account.
  3. Click on the dashboard.
  4. Click on Check Merit List option.
  5. Download Rank card & go for further steps.

Round for admission:

1. The First phase of Admission consists of :

Registration by the Candidate - Profile creation - Application and Creating preferences List - Publication of Institution wise Merit List and Allocation List - Admission taken by the candidate - One Upgrade Round  - Publication of Institution wise Merit List and Allocation List in Upgrade Round  - Admission by the Student in Upgrade Round. 

2. The last and Mop-Up Phase (subject to availability of vacant seats) consists of :

Registration by fresh candidates - Profile creation & Creation of Preference list by Fresh candidates - Preference List creation by the Candidates (who have not been allotted seats/ who have been allotted but not admitted/ who have been admitted but cancelled admission in first phase)  - Publication of Institution wise Merit List and Allocation List in Mop-up Phase  - Admission by the Student in Mop-up Phase - Upgrade Round of Mop-up Phase - Publication of Institution wise Merit List in Mop-up Phase and Allocation List in Upgrade Round of Mop-Up Phase, - Admission by the Student in Upgrade Round of Mop-Up Phase.

How will the candidate know how the merit index for a course for a specific college is calculated?

  • It is clearly mentioned in the portal and the calculation is shown besides the merit index of the candidate in the portal.

What is the Merit Index?

  • Each and every Higher Education Institution has specified a formula for calculating the merit index for each course which is clearly explained in the portal.

How merit lists will be prepared?

  • Merit lists will be prepared per college per course in the descending order of merit index for that particular course.

How allocation lists will be generated?

  • Along with the merit list, a particular candidate will be allocated only a single position in the allocation list for a specific course in a specific institute in a particular round depending on the candidate’s merit index and preference list.

How do I know if I’ve been selected?

  • Log into your WB College Admission 2025-26 (www.wbcap.in) dashboard to check the merit list and seat allotment status. You’ll also receive notifications via email or SMS.

What happens in case of a tie between candidates with the same merit index?

  • If there is a tie between candidates with the same merit index for a seat of a particular programme , the tie breaking rule prescribed by the college/HEI will be used to break the tie.

How ranking will be done for PwD / Differently abled candidate?

  • No separate rank will be generated for PwD/differently-abled candidates. However, there will be horizontal reservation for PwD candidates in all categories where such applicants are available as per Government rules now in force.

When was the merit list published ?

  • Follow official website or this website regularly for updates regarding merit lists, 1st round seat allotment & admission.

How will the candidate take admission once selected?

  • The candidate has to log in and pay the requisite admission fees online.

How admission fees can be paid?

  • Online using net banking/Credit/debit card or using UPI like Payam or phone pay etc.

What will happen if a candidate does not get the chance of admission in any of the colleges in the preference list?

  • The candidate need to create ’Preference List’ a new in the Mop-up round in terms of the notifications to be published (provided seats are vacant).

Can the student claim admission to any seat once admission for that round is over?

  • No.

How long admission can be canceled and refund will be processed by the portal?

  • Till the end of the last round of admission as notified in the portal.

Can the candidate cancel admission after the portal closes?

  • The candidate has to apply to the concerned college/HEI as per rules in force.

What is meant by provisional admission?

  • Admission taken through online portal will be provisional until physical verification of documents is done by the college.

When will an admitted candidate confirm his/ her admission?

  • Admission will be confirmed once the candidate’s documents are physically verified successfully in the concerned college/ institute by the college authority and successful completion of the registration with the university.

When will the document verification done in the college?

  • After completion of the online aspect of the admission process (which will be notified through Email/ SMS and dates will be available in the website of the specific college/institution).

How many Phases of admission will be conducted?

2 phases -

  • The First phase & upgrade round phase.
  • The last and Mop-Up Phase & upgrade round of mop up phase.

For applying in the Mop up round is it compulsory to activate/select the upgradation mode?

  • No.

Is there any assurance to get admission in my most preferred college if I apply for Mop up round?

  • No. Allocation in Mop up round will depend on merit index and available vacancy at that time.

If I attend the document verification in the selected college, will I be able to apply further for Mop up round?

  • Yes, the candidate can apply in the Mop up round after Physical verification.

If I got admission in my 2nd preference college. If I opt for auto upgradation and get selected in my 1st preference college then will the previous admission be cancelled?

  • Yes. Your previous admission will be auto cancelled.

What the candidate should do if he/she has not been allotted any college?

  • If the candidate has not got any allotment in the 1st round of the admission phase, then the candidate has the to wait for 2nd round of admission phase which will depend on the remaining number of vacancies. 2nd round of the admission phase may start after the completion documents verification procedure at respective colleges with regard to 1st round.

I am already studying in a college under CU but this time through CAP I got Botany Hons in a college. I like to join there. Whether I can take admission there and how?

  • Yes, take online admission and report your case during Physical verification at the college where you are now taking admission.

I am unfortunate and was not allotted any seat in 1st merit list. What can I do now? Wait for 2nd list or have to wait up to Mop up round?

  • You will have to wait for the next round of Phase I for allotment of seat and will also be considered for Mop up round for future allotment.

I got selected in 1st preference college which is away from my residence. I like to take admission in 5th preference college which is near to me. What can I do now?

I gave my preferences to study Hons in Education Sc first and English in choice two. Now I changed my mind and like to take admission only in English Hons .

What can I do now?

  • You can apply afresh in Mop up round if you don’t take admission now. But your allotment will depend on the available seat/vacancy status and your merit index for your choice of course at that time.

What is up-gradation?

  • Up-gradation is a process whereby an already admitted candidate can improve to a position of higher preference by opting upgrade option and getting admitted to the preferred option if seat is available.

When will the candidate not be considered for up-gradation after admission in previous round?

  • A candidate will not be considered for upgradation if the candidate is admitted to a seat allotted to him/her as first preference.

Will the candidate be considered for up-gradation if the candidate does not take admission in an allocated seat?

  • No. If a candidate fails to take admission, she/he will not be considered in later Upgrade Rounds other than the Mop-Up round, if any.

Which seats will be considered for up-gradation?

  • Only those seats where no admission has been taken and/or cancelled subsequent to admission in the previous rounds will be considered as ‘Available Seats’ for the subsequent Up-gradation Round/s.

How will the provisionally admitted candidate cancel his/her admission if the candidate is allotted seat in higher preference in the next round after up-gradation?

  • If any provisionally admitted candidate (who opted for upgradation) is allotted another seat of higher preference in the upgrade round, the candidate shall have to click on the “Yes” button while taking admission to the up-graded seat, to vacate the earlier admitted seat. If the candidate decides not to take admission to the upgraded seat, the provisional admission taken earlier will remain valid and unchanged.

If a candidate is not allocated any seat in a particular round, should the candidate wait for allocation in the next round of the admission process?

  • Yes. The candidate will be allowed to alter the preference list in the Mop-Up round subject to the availability of seats.

Is it mandatory for the candidate to take admission if the candidate is allocated a seat in any institution?

  • Yes. It is mandatory to take admission if a seat is allotted to retain his/her candidature in the portal . However, the candidate may apply afresh in the Mop-up round (if seats are available).

Does the candidate need to submit his/her willingness somewhere in the portal for up-gradation? Or it will be automatically exercised?

  • Yes. The candidate is required to click on the Up-gradation button. Upgradation will not be automatically exercised.
