The Indian Air Force (IAF) has released the AFCAT 01/2026 Recruitment Notification inviting applications from Indian citizens (men and women) to join as Group ‘A’ Gazetted Officers in the Flying Branch and Ground Duty (Technical and Non-Technical) branches, including NCC Special Entry, for courses commencing in January 2027. Flying (AFCAT):

  • SSC: Men - 34, Women - 4

Ground Duty - Non-Technical (SSC):

  • Weapon Systems (WS): Men 21, Women 5
  • Administration: Men 48, Women 12
  • Logistics: Men 9, Women 2
  • Accounts: Men 8, Women 2
  • Education: Men 2, Women 2
  • Meteorology: Men 1, Women 2

Ground Duty - Technical (AE L / AE M):

  • SSC (major share): roughly AE(L) - 100, AE(M) - 38 (bulk of technical seats).
  • PC (small share): examples listed include AE(L): 3 and AE(M): 9.

NCC Special Entry (Flying) -

  • 10% of relevant seats are reserved from CDSE/AFCAT vacancies for NCC candidates (must have NCC Air Wing ‘C’ certificate).
  • NCC Special Entry candidates are exempted from the AFCAT written test and go straight to AFSB.

IAF Notification Recruitment 2025 - Eligibility Criteria

(1) Flying Branch:

  • 10+2 with 50% marks each in Physics & Maths, and
  • Graduation (any discipline) with 60% marks, OR
  • BE/BTech with 60% marks, OR
  • AMIE/ASIIE (India) with 60% marks.

(2) Ground Duty (Technical):

  • 10+2 with 50% marks each in Physics & Maths, +
  • AE(L): Engineering degree in Electronics/Electrical/IT/CS and allied disciplines.
  • AE(M): Engineering degree in Mechanical/Production/Automobile/Mechatronics and related fields.

(3) Ground Duty (Non-Technical):

  • WS Branch: Graduation (any discipline) or BE/BTech with 60%.
  • Admin & Logistics: Graduation (any discipline) with 60%.
  • Accounts: B.Com/BBA (Finance)/BBM (Finance)/CA/CMA/CS/CFA with 60%.
  • Education: Post-graduation with 50% and Graduation with 60%.
  • Meteorology: B.Sc. with Physics & Maths / Engineering with 60%.

Age Limit (as on 01 January 2027):

  • Flying Branch: 20-24 years (born between 02 Jan 2003 to 01 Jan 2007)
  • Upper age limit 26 years for CPL holders (born between 02 Jan 2001 to 01 Jan 2007).
  • Ground Duty (Tech & Non-Tech): 20-26 years (born between 02 Jan 2001 to 01 Jan 2007)

Indian Air Force AFCAT 01/2026 Recruitment - Examination Fee

Candidates applying for AFCAT entry will have to pay the examination fee of Rs. 550/- plus GST (non-refundable).

  • This fee does not apply to candidates applying through NCC Special Entry.
  • The payment must be made online only after submitting the application form.
  • Candidates can pay the examination fee using credit card, debit card, or net banking through the official payment gateway provided in the application portal.
  • Offline modes such as cash, cheque, or demand draft (DD) will not be accepted.

Candidates need to follow the steps given below to apply online:

  1. Visit the official website - afcat.edcil.co.in.
  2. Register with your email ID, mobile number, and Aadhaar (last 4 digits).
  3. Fill the form carefully - once submitted, details cannot be edited.
  4. Upload photo (100-200 KB), signature (80–150 KB), and thumb impression (50-100 KB).
  5. Pay the application fee online.
  6. Submit and print the application form for future reference.
