TN Minorities Welfare Schemes 2026: Minorities welfare schemes for Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC) applicable only to the residents of Tamil Nadu and those belonging to the castes listed as BC, MBC, or DNC in the State List. People from other states, even if they belong to these castes, cannot avail the benefits of these schemes. Tamil Nadu Minorities Welfare Scheme 2026 All Scholarship Name & Other Details
Pre-matric Scholarship Scheme -
The Tamil Nadu government offers a pre-matric scholarship scheme to help school students from Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC). Under the pre-matric scheme, students studying in Tamil medium (Classes 1 to 10) and English medium (Classes 6 to 10) in government and government-aided schools do not have to pay tuition fees, special fees, or examination fees.
Eligibility:
- Must be studying in Government or Government Aided Schools.
- For Exam Fee Reimbursement (Class 10 English Medium Students):
- BC Students: Parental income should not exceed Rs.2.5 lakh per year.
- MBC/DNC Students: No income limit.
- Tamil Medium Students: Automatically eligible for full fee waiver (no income limit).
Post-matric scholarship scheme (School Students) -
The Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for School Students is a financial assistance programme aimed at helping economically weaker sections of the society to continue their education after completing Class 10. Under this scheme, students studying in Class 11 and 12 (Higher Secondary) in recognized schools get benefits like tuition fees, examination fees and maintenance allowance. This scholarship is mainly for Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC).
Eligibility:
- Must be studying in Government or Government Aided Schools.
- BC Students (English Medium): Parental income must be below Rs.2.5 lakh per year.
- MBC/DNC Students (Both Mediums): No income condition.
- Extension of HCMMS Scheme up to Graduation Level.
Post-matric scholarship scheme (College Students) -
The Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme for College Students is a government programme aimed at supporting students from economically weaker sections to continue their higher education after completing Class 10. Under this scheme, financial assistance is provided to Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC) category students for tuition fees, examination fees and maintenance allowance during their college studies including diploma, undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
Eligibility:
- Under the Post-Matric Scholarship Scheme, scholarships are provided to students belonging to Backward Classes, Most Backward Classes and Denotified Communities students studying in ITI, Diploma in Polytechnic, Post-Graduate, Professional and PhD courses.
- The annual parental income for availing this scholarship should not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs.
- Under this scheme, tuition fees and special fees prescribed for government educational institutions are sanctioned.
- Examination fees as notified in the scholarship notification are sanctioned in full and book money is sanctioned.
- In addition to the scholarship amount, boarding and lodging expenses are sanctioned for students residing in the hostel attached to the educational institution, at an enhanced rate of Rs. 4000/- per annum (Rs. 400/- per month for 10 months in a year) for undergraduate courses, professional courses, ITI/Diploma and Post-Graduate courses.
Free Education Scheme -
Degree Courses:
Students belonging to Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC) studying three-year degree courses in Government and Government Aided Arts and Science colleges are eligible. Under this scheme, tuition fees are fully waived, and special fee, non-refundable compulsory fee, full examination fee, and book money are provided as per government norms. This scholarship is given without any income limit or family condition. Students staying in hostels also get boarding and lodging charges of Rs.4000 per year.
Diploma Courses:
Polytechnic Colleges, the scheme covers tuition fee, special fee, non-refundable compulsory fee, full examination fee, and book money. The parental annual income must not exceed Rs.2.5 lakh, and the student must be the first diploma holder in the family. Hostel students receive Rs.4000 per year towards boarding and lodging.
Professional Courses:
Students pursuing professional courses under Government quota in Government, Government Aided, or Self-Financing Colleges can avail this scholarship. It covers special fee, non-refundable compulsory fee, full exam fee, and book money. The student’s family income must be Rs.2.5 lakh or less, and they must be the first graduate in the family. If residing in hostels, students also receive Rs.4000 per year for boarding and lodging.
Scholarships to students studying in Central Government Institution like IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT and Central Universities -
This scholarship is for students from Tamil Nadu belonging to Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), and Denotified Communities (DNC) who are pursuing UG/PG courses in prestigious Central Government Institutions like IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT, and Central Universities.
Eligibility:
- Must belong to BC / MBC / DNC community.
- Must be a native of Tamil Nadu.
- Studying in IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT, or Central Universities.
- Annual family income should be ₹2.50 lakh or less.
Scholarship Benefits:
Covers Tuition Fee, Special Fee, Exam Fee, and other compulsory fees as per institution norms OR Rs.2.00 lakh per year, whichever is lower.
Scholarship amount reimbursed every year for the full course duration (UG/PG)
Rural Girls’ Incentive Scheme:-
The Rural Girls’ Incentive Scheme is provided by the Tamil Nadu Government to support girl students belonging to Most Backward Classes (MBC) and Denotified Communities (DNC). This scheme encourages rural education among girls studying in Government or Government-aided schools (except in Chennai).
Eligibility:
- Only MBC/DNC girl students are eligible.
- Must be studying in 3rd to 6th Standard.
- Must be enrolled in Government or Government-Aided schools located in rural areas.
- Family income should not exceed Rs. 1,00,000/- per year.
- Priority is given to girl children of widows or destitute women.
Class & Amount:
- 3rd to 5th Std - Rs. 500 per year
- 6th Std - Rs. 1,000 per year
Distribution of Free Bi-Cycles -
Under the Free Bicycle Distribution Scheme, free bicycles are provided to all students (both boys and girls) studying in class XI in government, government aided and partially aided schools, irrespective of their income or community.
Eligibility:
- Students must be studying in 11th standard (+1).
- Must be enrolled in Government, Government Aided, or Partially Aided Schools.
- Both Boys and Girls are eligible.
- Students who are Free Bus Pass holders are also eligible.
- Not eligible: Students staying in hostels inside the school premises or studying in residential schools.
Kallar Reclamation Schools -
Kallar Reclamation Schools and Welfare Schemes (Tamil Nadu):
In Madurai, Theni and Dindigul districts of Tamil Nadu, special schools called Kallar Reclamation Schools (295 schools and 54 hostels) are run for the students of Piramalai Kallar community (DNC division). These schools provide free mid-day meals, uniforms, textbooks and slates. The scheme is managed by the Joint Director (Kallar Reclamation), Madurai, under the MBC and DNC Commissioner, Chennai.
Eligibility:
- Must belong to Backward Classes (BC), Most Backward Classes (MBC), or Denotified Communities (DNC).
- Parental annual income should be less than Rs.2,00,000.
- Distance limit of 8 km from home for boys.
- No distance limit for girls.
Students studying in:
- Class 4 to 12 – in school hostels.
- Degree / Polytechnic students – in college hostels.

- Must be actually working in the profession.
- Minimum age: 21 years.
- Only one tool per family.
For Sewing Machine:
- Age between 20 to 45 years.
- Must have tailoring knowledge.
- Must not have received similar benefit earlier from Social Welfare Department.
Free House Site Pattas:
- Belong to BC, MBC, DNC, or Minority communities.
- Should not own a house site.
- Annual family income should be Rs. 1,00,000 or less.
Land allotment depends on area:

BC, MBC and DNC college students can collect the application form for BC, MBC and DNC scholarship from their institutions and submit the duly filled application form to the concerned institution.
Scholarships to students studying in Central Government Institution like IIT, IIM, IIIT, NIT and Central Universities -
Eligible students should fill the application form and submit it to their institution. After getting approval from the Principal, the application with all required documents should be sent to the following address:

Rural Girls’ Incentive Scheme:-
Eligible girl students studying in government or government aided schools in rural areas should collect the application form from the headmaster of their school. They should fill the form carefully with details like name, class, caste, family income and attach necessary documents like income certificate, caste certificate and bank account details. After filling the form, the students should submit it to the headmaster, who will verify the details and send the application form for further processing.
Distribution of Free Bi-Cycles -
There is no separate application needed for the Free Bi-Cycles Scheme. Eligible students studying in 11th standard in Government, Government Aided, or Partially Aided schools will be identified by the school. Students can contact their School Headmaster for details and distribution of the bicycle.
