Harry S. Truman Scholarship 2026-27; The Harry S. Truman Scholarship is a highly prestigious U.S. undergraduate fellowship created by Congress in 1975 to honor President Harry S. Truman. It supports college juniors who demonstrate exceptional leadership potential, strong academic performance, and a deep commitment to public service. Harry S. Truman Scholarship 2026-27 Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must be U.S. citizen or U.S. national (ex: American Samoa) or expecting citizenship by the award date.
• Must be Currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. institution;
• Must be in the second-last year of a 4-year program or the final year of a 3-year program.
• Must be nominated by your college (max 4 students + 3 transfer students per school).
• Must plan to go to graduate school for a public service career (not required to go right away).

Candidate can be:

• Study any major that may lead to a public service career.
• Can be of any age.
• Choose any graduate degree (except MBA).
• Apply for domestic or international programs.

Resident:

To be eligible for the Harry S. Truman Scholarship, applicants must be U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals. This includes those born in places such as American Samoa. Students who are not yet citizens but are in the process of becoming U.S. citizens are also eligible to apply, provided that they retain citizenship at the time of the award.

Truman Scholarship 2026-27 Amount:

The Harry S. Truman Scholarship awards up to $30,000 to each scholar to pursue a graduate or professional degree in a field related to public service. The funds can be used for tuition, books, fees, and living expenses while studying law, public policy, education, public health, environmental studies, economics, political science, and more. Truman Scholarship Foundation 2026-27 Selection Process:

The Truman Scholarship selection process begins with the selection of nominees from each campus, after which applicants submit their application, transcripts, and three letters of recommendation online by the February deadline. The foundation reviews all applications for completeness, then groups them by state and region. A finalist selection committee reviews the files, scores them based on leadership, service, and academic potential, and selects finalists who are invited for interviews.

Harry S. Truman Scholarship 2026-27 How to Apply: 

To apply for the Truman Scholarship, candidates must first contact their campus advisor to confirm a campus nomination. Then, draft and refine your responses using the online application system (access provided by your advisor). In addition, arrange for three letters of recommendation and provide transcripts from all institutions you have attended. Finally, review everything carefully and submit your complete application online by 11:59 PM (local time) on February 3, 2026.
